Move-in weekend is coming up quick...

...and i am terrified!

for the past week and a half i have been training with Mesa Court housing. all in preparation for the in-coming freshman. training is training. there are times when i enjoy it but most of the time i'm dreading it. it is from 9am to 5pm...8 full hours of boring information, added stress because of the job criteria, and constant stopping and going from lecture to lecture. let's just say it's all the information of spop [and a little more] but none of the fun. i fall asleep during the lectures because they are so dry and useless to my position. i get stressed out because i feel like i have to know what i'm doing before i am taught what i'm supposed to do. i go from room to room to room listening and listening and never able to actually do work. and by the end of my day, i am exhausted mentally which makes me physically unable to work and emotionally unprepared to invest time into meeting new people. but you know what....i wouldn't trade any of it for the world.

this training experience has been so rewarding for me and has kept me on the path that i want to be on at this point in my life. I have been pushed passed the point of exhaustion and now only running on pure motivation//anxiety. i have been so blessed to be working with 8 other people on my CP team, 29 amazing RAs, and the greatest one has to be my RA EMAN!!!! this is just another learning experience for me and i am so happy about that. i'm at the point in my life where i am trying to learn as much as i can and take in as much from my surroundings, peers, and superiors as possible. I dread going to trainings because i hate waking up.

so far Welcome Week has been a lot of the focus of my duties and concerns. i must say that my team is legit. we work pretty well together and we are so comfortable with each other that we can joke around in a mean way with each other but never take it to heart on the flip side we work well off each other. with what one of us lacks or is short on, the others are able to take it on and excel which overall makes the group excel. i feel like we are all on the same page and that makes me feel so much better about this transitioning period.

i can only imagine how my spoppers, my sister, and the rest of the class of 2012 must be feeling at this moment. as of 8am on either saturday or sunday, their lives will be changed for good. the moment their parents drive off onto university, the class of 2012 is in the hands of their RAs, the CPs, and themselves. i still remember that feeling when i moved in two years ago. it was scary and freeing all at the same time.

i worry for my sister a lot because i dont want her to have the first year college experience that i did. i want her to be successful in every aspect of college life and sometimes i feel like no matter how much i want her to break out of her shell early on, it only puts her back into her shell. am i ruining her future already at uci because i only want the best for her? did i go through all the hardships, failures, and disappointments only for her to bottle up and shy away into the crowd? i hope not. i hope she knows that what i did for myself, was for her and that she has the potential i never saw in myself two years ago. it's crazy to think about where i am in life and what i am doing and i think, damnit if only i was like this my first year, i wouldnt have suffered or struggled as much as i did. you know the saying lead by example, in my sisters case, she lives by example. she lives and learns from my examples. GOODNESS...she is so lucky sometimes.

i love the word Potential. i apply as often as i can to myself, my work, my experiences, my sister, my family, my spoppers, my LIFE. potential is the basis of life that motivates you to live. recognizing the potential within yourself and in others is such a gift. living up to that potential is a blessing. i hope that those who read this see POTENTIAL and continue to aspire for it and live up to it!

move-in weekend is approaching and i am terrified....i can only imagine how the freshman are feeling...but i hope that they are ready to see the potential within themselves and to make their next 4 years amazing!!!
